Forrest had a plan: Travel the country and see the sights. The second he told me, I knew I would join him. So I canceled my previous plan, which was to attend North Idaho College in the fall. I can go to college anytime, but this journey with my friend was a once in a lifetime opportunity. We realized that if we don't do this now, we may never get the chance. We'd really regret giving up on this opportunity for many years down the road.
So we had a dilemma; we could stay in Post Falls, go to NIC, get a degree, and start a career OR explore America.
So we both decided to pass on the conventional route and decided to partake in a journey across the United States. We want to see all the big cities, the monuments, the beaches, and everything between. We want to meet different people and experience the different cultures. We want to truly see what America has to offer. It will be a long road with some hardships along the way, but we are up for the challenge.
People always say "Go big or go home". We will be far from home. We will be all over the country living life to the fullest. We will sleep in our car and eat hot dogs and oatmeal for days straight. We will drive until we don't feel like driving anymore. We will encounter things we won't be able to comprehend or explain. We will be forced to make quick and critical decisions. We will learn valuable life lessons and travel all over the country. We want to learn things about our country, our fellow Americans, and ourselves. Then we will come back home and start college.
But first- we must do America.
So, now that we made that decision – we have to figure out how. We are not rich, and neither are our families. But we do know people in some parts of the country between us. So, we will be stopping in to see people we know and get a chance to have a good meal and a shower. We will need money for gas and food, and we will need places to stay, eat, and shower - in the places that we don't know people (yet). Our trip will begin on or about October 24, 2009 and we should be back in Post Falls, Idaho by June of 2010.
There is no itinerary for our trip – we will go where the opportunities take us.
Email Kelly or Forrest with any offerings of odd (but legitimate) jobs or free lodging around the country.
